Leila’s Toy Box is a selection of 3 instruments found in my daughters toy box. I have turned them into VST’s to help her with development and gain a better understanding of how hardware can be sampled and turned into a digital plugin. The 3 VST’s include letters from A to Z, minions speaking, laughing and singing. And a Xylophone that spans 3 octaves and includes 3 different hit styles. All instruments are a direct emulation of children’s toy.
3 ALPHABET DOG SOUNDS
The 3 sounds include singles, which are single letters from A to Z. Phrases, which are short 1 second long phrases such as A is for apple. And sentences which are full sentences up to seconds in length. A full set of sounds that can be used much like a speak and spell.
3 XYLOPHONES
Choose between 3 hit styles. Wood mallet, metal stick or played naturally by pressing the note down. The Xylophone plays back exactly like the child's instrument plays back. Slightly out of tune and cheap sounding.
3 MINION KEYBOARD BANKS
Using the VST you can switch between sound banks on the minion keyboard in exactly the same way you do on the toy. Clicking any of the 3 selectors you can switch between laughing, singing and minion speak.
CHILD DEVELOPMENT TOOL
I wanted all 3 VST's to be identical emulations of the toy. The reason for this is I want to use these instruments to teach my daughter about VST's and how a toy can be recorded and recreated into a digital format. She is familiar with each of these toys in hardware form and I feel that introducing her to them in software form, will help her understand and pick digital synthesis up very easy.
