英文简介:
Thomas Alva Edison never met Jimmy Wyble and that's too bad because they have a lot in common. Edison spent his life in the pursuit of knowledge and in the practical application of that knowledge. It's a long, arduous process we refer to as invention and in the case of Edison, we're reminded of it every time we turn on a light or playa record. Of the process of invention, old Tom himself once said that it was 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration. So when we praise the man for his acheivements we're really honoring not just his ideas, but the hard work it took to get those ideas and the even harder work it took to develop them. In today's terminology we'd have to say that Tom had paid his dues.
Not many musicians (and especially not guitarists) have become as famous as Tom Edison, and yet every dedicated musician knows the meaning of the phrase "paying-your-dues". It means hard, continous, life-long practice, most of the time without much reward, sometimes without much to eat, and once in a while without much of a life span.
Jimmy Wyble is exactly that type of dedicated guitarist. You probably don't recognize the name. Not many people do, aside from fellow studio musicians and other top players inside the music industry. And yet, if you've followed the music scene for the last 30 years or listened to many country and jazz albums or watched the tube, you've probably heard Jimmy play without knowing it. Believe me, he has paid his dues.
I met Jimmy by chance about a year ago and listened to some of the most unbelievable music I'd ever heard on guitar. In this book we've tried to present not only that music but also the process which lead to its development so that you can thoroughly understand it and make it a real part of your playing. As with any really new music, you'll find that along with its intrinsic beauty, it will open a whole world of ideas that somehow you won't be able to help getting.
I said before that you probably didn't know Jimmy Wyble. Once you've played his music, you'll never forget him.
