Arctic Pads (1.5GB)
Taking influence from a spate of sub-zero temperatures in their hometown of Budpest, the PinkNoise Studio sound wizards have whipped up an exclusive collection of 10 playable pad sounds with an icy edge. Each multisampled patch was crafted by taking several analogue synth sounds from a variety of sources, and then layered using Reason’s Combinator to create complex textures. Numerous tricks such as flanging effects, detuning to create dissonance, and adding noise and breathy vocals combine to evoke the sounds of desolate ice cold planetscapes and Arctic wastelands. You’ll find high-quality 24/44.1 and super-high-quality 24/96 versions, with patches for Kontakt and Reason’s NN-XT sampler.
Psy Trance Volume 2 (355MB)
Following on from the psy trance pack in Issue 105, Equinox Sounds offers up part 2 – a stomping collection of beats and synths. The loops are divided into folders with pounding 140BPM drum and top loops, fast, acid-tinted bass lines, and deep, reverb-drenched synth patterns featuring long filter sweeps. There are also folders of one-shot FX noises and percussion hits to spice up your tracks. All of the files are provided in WAV and Apple Loops formats so they can easily be dropped into your software or sampler of choice.
Making Trance in Logic
Sonic Academy and legendary trance producer Chris Agnelli take us through a tip-fuelled 60 minutes of videos taken from the How to Make Trance in Logic tutorial. Starting with a play-through of the finished track, we then have videos covering creating a kick drum and building percussion parts using Ultrabeat, adding an off-beat bass using the ES-P synth, and layering in a fast arpeggio bass using the ES2. Be sure to copy the six videos to your hard drive before viewing to get the best playback.
Reverb Explained
DAW master Eli Krantzberg and Groove3 team up to tackle one of the most-used and often-abused processing effects in the book. We’ve got over 40 minutes of videos taken from the recently released Reverb Explained tutorial that look at creating a unified space across all the instruments, using two reverbs in parallel and in series, working with mono reverbs, creating long reverb FX, and an in-depth exploration of AIR reverb and early reflections. Although this tutorial is taught in Pro Tools, many of the techniques are easily transferable and relevant to all DAWs.
Blu Mar Ten, Stereo MCs and More…
The ever-prolific Loopmasters continues to stay at the forefront of the samples scene with an endless supply of world-class audio created by big-name artists and producers. To accompany the review in this month’s Mini Reviews we’ve got a handful of deep and innovative synth and drum loops from electronic and drum and bass pioneers Blu Mar Ten. You’ll also find big-beat grooves and riffs from the legendary Stereo MCs , insanely funky live bass loops taken from Funk Bass Loops, and glitched and effected vocal chops from Underground Techno Vox. And finally, for lovers of warm and squelchy house, there are samples taken from Mason Analogue Farmhouse and Mario Basanov from Disco to House.
