Approaching Eurorack and modular synthesis with an exploratory, genre-agnostic approach, New York-based educational collective Signal Flux offer us Modular Studies. Aiming to expand access and literacy surrounding electronic music creation, Signal Flux mirrors the efforts of their workshops in this collection with a deep, but accessible dive into the possibilities of modular sound design.

While the pack offers a range of loops employing a variety of synthesis techniques from FM to wavetable, the one shots are the true gems in the pack, waiting to be thrown into samplers and turned into virtual instruments. The Ableton Drum Rack & Simpler instruments offered as extras offer a glimpse into what’s possible for virtual instrument design from these sounds.

For the modular-curious and those who wish to capture some of the medium’s iconic sounds without starting their own rig, Modular Studies is an invaluable resource.
