From the premillennial sci-fi of Tricky, Dabrye, MF Doom, and the RZA's Bobby Digital, to the new hypnagogic nihilism of Drake and Kanye West - hip hop remains driven to explore and explore the future - in order to reclaim the present. We mythologise "space" as not merely a final frontier, but also the ultimate realm of possibility, genesis and eternal return. Futurist John Akomfrah speaks of a decentralised 'music as monument' (check out his Black Audio Film Collective) for those without physical ruins, whilst pioneers like George Clinton and Sun Ra put it more somewhat succinctly, suggesting space is the place... “The possible has been tried and failed. Now it's time to try the impossible.” - Sun Ra - First in our Blazed In Space series, is selection of smooth intergalactic pads, loops and post human sketches to loop into oblivion.
