Revered Dutch developer Rob Papen should need no introduction to regular readers.
He’s the creator of heavyweight instrument plugins like the powerful Predator,
drum synth Punch and the newly-updated FM monster Blue II.
His very own RG-Muted CM has been a treasured part of the Plugins collection since
185, and now Computer Music readers are lucky enough to have another Rob Papen
addition to our monthly software collection in the form of RP-Distort CM.
Don’t be fooled by the name, though, as this plugin goes way beyond mere distortion.
RP-Distort CM is a highly flexible multieffect, featuring a host of processing modules
that sound terrific on their own, but really come to life when used in combination.
What’s more, they can be individually activated and reordered for all manner of
creative sound design purposes and mixing tasks. The distortion module features
five high-quality distortion algorithms taken from the full RP-Distort, with
accompanying pre-drive four-band EQ and noise gate sections to further tailor your
signal’s response. The plugin’s aggressive dual low- and high-pass resonant filter
section is ideal for creative sweeping and frequency adjustments in the mix.
The compressor module features the usual parameters for keeping your signal’s
dynamics in check – ideal when applying heavy distortion, filtering and widening.
Speaking of the which, the widener module uses pseudo-stereo techniques to cleverly
widen mono sound sources (and enhance stereo sources too).
On top of all of this, a flexible modulation matrix and four LFOs are on hand to let you
get the parameters moving, for even greater creative possibilities.
RP-Distort CM is likely to become one of those go-to plugins that you reach for time
