The signature sound of those songs by producers such as DJ Toomp, Shawty Redd, Drumma Boy and Zaytoven became known as Trap music.

Fast forward 10+ years and in addition to Hip Hop based Trap we now have a new offshoot of Trap based in EDM. This is growing in popularity as quickly as Dubstep did.
